At Seek & Expand, our primary mission is Conscious Living Advocacy, focusing on sustainability and community support to ensure a holistic approach to well-being.
It is our higher purpose, as conscious advocates, to guide and aid conscious leaders in co-creating a conscious culture in business and community. Our goal is to help others find balance and the path of least resistance. Conscious Advocacy aims to support others in their journey into conscious living. Consciousness leads to better decisions, creating a success in business, love, and life in general.
Consciousness is a fascinating phenomenon! According to the Monroe Institute, we can be more successful conscious explorers by setting clear and positive intentions and using the power of our creative skills (imagination) to activate and control our inner energy. “Energy and Consciousness are not separate, keep your heart open, surrender and trust in our explorations making them more real, interactive and transformative.” Monroe Institute
~Consciousness in Conscious Living!
Conscious Living Advocacy is a call to action for individuals to live intentionally, embrace mindfulness, and cultivate a balanced, meaningful life. It also extends beyond the self, promoting justice, transparency, and accountability in the systems and institutions that affect our collective well-being.
As a conscious living advocate, I aim to inspire individuals to lead lives guided by purpose, self-awareness, and compassion. This practice emphasizes mindfulness, personal accountability, and holistic well-being while also confronting corruption and injustice in larger societal frameworks. It’s about creating harmony within and using that foundation to advocate for fairness and transparency in the world around us. By living with intention, we empower ourselves and inspire others to do the same, creating ripple effects of change.
Consciousness is the state of being aware of and able to perceive one’s surroundings, thoughts, emotions, and experiences. It is the subjective experience of being alive and sentient. While consciousness is a central aspect of human and many animal experiences, its exact nature and mechanisms remain a complex and highly debated topic across disciplines like philosophy, neuroscience, psychology, and spirituality.
Key Perspectives on Consciousness
1. Philosophical Viewpoints:
• Dualism: Suggests that consciousness is distinct from the physical brain, often tied to a soul or non-material essence (e.g., René Descartes’ “mind-body dualism”).
• Physicalism/Materialism: Argues that consciousness arises from physical processes in the brain, without requiring non-material explanations.
• Panpsychism: Proposes that consciousness is a fundamental property of the universe, present even at the smallest scales.
2. Neuroscientific Understanding:
• Consciousness is thought to emerge from the complex interactions of neural networks in the brain, particularly involving areas like the cerebral cortex, thalamus, and brainstem.
• States of consciousness (e.g., wakefulness, dreaming, and coma) are associated with specific patterns of brain activity.
3. Psychological Aspects:
• Consciousness encompasses various levels, from basic awareness (e.g., sensing light or pain) to higher-order self-awareness (e.g., reflecting on one’s identity or goals).
• It includes both explicit (what you’re actively aware of) and implicit processes (e.g., subconscious influences).
4. Spiritual and Metaphysical Views:
• Many spiritual traditions view consciousness as the essence of existence, sometimes equating it with a universal or divine force (e.g., “Atman” in Hinduism or “Universal Mind” in some mystical teachings).
Types and Dimensions of Consciousness
• Phenomenal Consciousness: The “what it feels like” aspect of experience (e.g., the redness of red, the taste of chocolate).
• Access Consciousness: The ability to process and act on information (e.g., problem-solving or verbal communication).
• Self-Consciousness: Awareness of oneself as a distinct individual, often tied to introspection and self-reflection.
The Hard Problem of Consciousness
Coined by philosopher David Chalmers, the “hard problem” refers to the challenge of explaining why and how physical processes in the brain give rise to subjective experiences. This contrasts with “easy problems” like understanding brain activity patterns related to perception or decision-making.
In essence, consciousness is both a deeply familiar aspect of life and one of the most profound mysteries, bridging the material and immaterial realms of existence.
Consciousness in Conscious Living!
Consciousness is the irreducible substrate of existence, formless yet inclusive of all forms. It is infinite, with no beginning and no end. The field of consciousness, in other terminology, is called the Buddha-nature or the Mind of God. It can be likened to an infinite and all-powerful electromagnetic field. Each thing has its place within that field, similar to an iron filing; where you are in the field depends upon your “charge,” which is based on the decisions that you have made. As you say, “well, I forgive that person,” you move up higher in the field. If you say, “I am going to get even with that bad person,” you move down in the field. It is clear that one cannot blame anything on God or anyone (Hawkins, 2020, p.335).

In the context of conscious living, consciousness refers to a heightened state of awareness and intentionality in how one navigates life. It involves being mindful of one’s thoughts, emotions, actions, and the interconnectedness of those elements with the external world. Conscious living emphasizes living with purpose, clarity, and alignment with one’s values, fostering a sense of authenticity and fulfillment.
Key Aspects of Consciousness in Conscious Living
1. Self-Awareness
• Understanding your inner world: thoughts, emotions, motivations, and patterns of behavior.
• Recognizing the impact of your choices and actions on yourself and others.
• Being fully present in the moment, without judgment or distraction.
• Engaging with life intentionally rather than operating on autopilot.
3. Responsibility and Accountability
• Taking ownership of your choices and the outcomes they produce.
• Acknowledging how your actions influence your relationships, community, and environment.
4. Alignment with Core Values
• Living in a way that reflects your beliefs and priorities.
• Making decisions that resonate with your sense of purpose and integrity.
5. Connection and Interdependence
• Recognizing the interconnectedness of all life, including humans, animals, and the environment.
• Cultivating empathy, compassion, and a sense of stewardship for the world.
6. Growth-Oriented Mindset
• Viewing life as an opportunity for continuous learning and self-improvement.
• Embracing challenges as chances to evolve mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Examples of Conscious Living
• Health and Well-Being: Choosing nourishing foods, practicing mindful movement (e.g., yoga or walking), and managing stress effectively.
• Relationships: Communicating openly, showing empathy, and fostering meaningful connections.
• Environment: Being mindful of sustainability, reducing waste, and consuming resources responsibly.
• Purposeful Living: Pursuing work, hobbies, or activities that align with your deeper values and passions.
Benefits of Conscious Living
• Greater emotional resilience and clarity.
• A sense of fulfillment and peace.
• Healthier relationships with oneself and others.
• A positive contribution to the world through intentional actions.
In essence, consciousness in conscious living is about waking up to the life you’re living, making choices with awareness, and striving to align your actions with your values and aspirations. It transforms everyday existence into an intentional journey of meaning and connection.
~Conscious Living translates into business via Conscious Capitalism.
Capitalism is a fundamentally human endeavor. Conscious Capitalism is the integration of beliefs in pro-capitalism & systems improvement, personal & business advancement, and social & environmental impact. When we operate with higher purpose, stakeholder orientation, conscious leadership, and conscious culture, we elevate humanity through business.
Conscious Consulting takes every aspect of self into account, all is part of conscious living. And it always begins with self!
The HeartMath Institute’s research has shown that generating sustained positive emotions facilitates a body-wide shift to a specific, scientifically measurable state. This state is termed psychophysiological coherence, because it is characterized by increased order and harmony in both our psychological (mental and emotional) and physiological (bodily) processes. Psychophysiological coherence is state of optimal function. Research shows that when we activate this state, our physiological systems function more efficiently, we experience greater emotional stability, and we also have increased mental clarity and improved cognitive function. Simply stated, our body and brain work better, we feel better, and we perform better.
